Re: *fish Trap*

Thanks Miss Doni ! You have plenty of experience using a fish trap. I need to build a new one & considering /looking for ideas on how to improve on the design. Particularly the cumbersome feeding tube. I think Miss Doni's patened fish mush feeder could be utilized. LOL

Re: *fish Trap*

Okay...
It is 10.5" long, 3.5"x3.75" square, with a 5" riser tube and the door is 9" long.
The trap is made of 1/16" acrylic (super thin but strong enough) except for the riser tube which has 1/8" acrylic.
The 'bars' used to make the door's slide channel are 1/4" acrylic.

Here is a picture showing a close up of the door's slide channel (where the door slides down)

Re: *fish Trap*

The pic showing the channels is very helpful. I made the channel too wide & the current would cause trap to bind. I think thats why the aqua medic's trap is at an angle. I will make the trap door out of glass for the extra weight. Thank You very much!

Are you trying to invent a better fishtrap?
I'm not ready to beat a path to your door.

They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Re: *fish Trap*

Actually Vic, I already have a water proof two way solenoid that is activated with a garage door opener. I just push the button & the solenoid retracts a pin that holds the trap door open. This is just temporary until I get the "automated fish recognition system "setup. A web cam monitors the trap. The program is working but it only reconizes solid colors just need to tweek the soft ware a bit. Sorry You don't feel like coming my way. Florida is nice. If Ya change your mind let me know! Sorry Miss doni Didn't mean to highjack your thread.

Re: *fish Trap*

I've had one in my tank for the past few days letting the fish get used to it. I want to catch the Longnose Hawkfish.

Last time I used it, it was to catch "Tucker", my Hippo Tang.

Re: *fish Trap*

Nice trap Melev. I know how handy you are with acrylic and I highly suggest that you make those traps for sale. I have not found them online in a while...
I have been using mine for years with great results. I did removed the HOT arms long ago after I discovered that it works better sitting on the sand.

Re: *fish Trap*

I don't have that type of space in my tank to put one on the sand. This trap is 12" x 6" x 6" with a very thick trap door. I clip nori inside and the fish swim in to eat, and when the right fish goes in, down comes the door.

If you watched that video, you now know how hard it is to lift that thing out of the tank full of water and a fish!
