Leaking Protein SKimmer

Ok.. this is more of a gripe than anything else. The skimme ri have is the most annoying POS ever invented. Every tiem i drain the cup and turn it back on it eithyer... leaks through the seal.... overflows over the cup ( not having adjusted the air flow ) or doesnt fill at all. There is no way to tell and i am constantly getting floods.

I am upgrading it however i wotn be able ot use it properly until i get my sump set up. So in reality it is a double edge sword.

What I did with my old skimmer was drilled a 5/8 inch hole in the collection cup and ran a hose from the cup to a 5 gallon bucket. Ya may find that helps some while your waiting.

I just got a new skimmer, me and Witful basically have the same skimmer. I have had mine up for 48 hours and there has been a 100% improvment in the water quality. I bought it with an overflow that basically fits over a 5gallon bucket what this thing does is when the bucket fills it cuts off the air flow and just lets the water run thru the skimmer w/o air. I kind of like that a little better then the idea of having a full cup of crud criculate back into the tank, ie. in sump design.

The name of the company is AE Tech the guys name is Gary. He is a super nice guy that turns out quality skimmers. I'm thrilled with mine and the way he handled the order.

Yeh, too bad i am in AUstralia and there isnt too many good palces to get skimmers from.

Is it possible you could make your own if you can't find a better skimmer from someone there?

Gina, Yeh i've seen a few DIY plans for skimmers and such. I've found t eh skimmer i want but i cant get it for another few months as i have a holiday to pay for and wouldnt be able ot use it anyways til the sump is ready to go.
