| Contributing Member ![]() | Euro-Reef Tips? Ho Ho Ho!! Even people on the naughty list get presents... My Christmas gift to myself arrived tonight....my Euro-reef CS8-3. I couldn't get the packaging opened fast enough. Even my 2 year old daughter was impressed when I pulled it out of the box, "Oh my goodness", she exclaimed. I felt like the old man in the movie A Christmas Story, when he opened his prize leg lamp. Holy foam fractionators....this thing is a monster! Does anyone have any tips after setting up their own Euro-reef? I'm looking forward to getting this bad boy in action, but want to make sure I don't mess it up.

| Achilles Tang ![]() | Seriously, if you 'test' it out with tap water you will not see near the level of bubbles that will be the case with salt water. Another thing to keep in mind is there is a break in period during which you will wonder what all the fuss has been, since there is so little foam. In time it will be removing all sorts of crud overnight! Folks have told me and I have since experienced that the higher the exit tube, the wetter your foam. Lowering it to the lowest6 setting will give you a dry foam. Some like wet - because it extracts more types of crud (so they say) some like dry because is still works GREAT and you are not emptying the cup every day. My two cents. Congratulations on a fine skimmer. Also - I've recently seen a ER skimmer thread over at RAG or RC, not sure which. Lots of good info stacked up there.

| Sea Pen | When you first get it running, keep the tube all the way down for an hour or so then slowly raise it up until you get the right foam. When my was fully adjusted, the top of my sponge is even with the curve on the unit. Notice in the picture. |

| Contributing Member ![]() | John, I actually debated between AquaC 240 and the skimmer that I have. There wasn't that much of a price difference between the two after you figured in the cost of the pump for the AquaC. I did like the feature that AquaC had for reactor effluent. I debated for some time on the two, and I don't think I would have gone wrong with either skimmer, IMO. For those that are interested....here are the websites....the third website listed sells factory blemished Euro-Reefs, and also offers an exchange of Euro-reef to upgrade your skimmer.... | Tubeworm | Congrats on your new purchase. I have been running a CS6-3 for a year and a ½.It has been a great skimmer.Have not had a single problem with it. Like what is said above, usally takes a few days to get slimed up. Them seem to run the best in 6 to 8 inches of water. I run this on a 75 gal. Oceanic r/r Set it and forget it. | Achilles Tang ![]() | Nikki, The effluent port was one of the things that i liked about the aqua C, but i have heard form some folks that you shouldnt hook your reactor to a skimmer--- Mike help....., so im not sure which i am going to go with. LFS recommended an ASM, kind of a clone but much cheaper. Choices, choices, choices
