do they make what i need????

I was looking around the lighting department at home depot and came across a outdoor fluorescent flood light. it is a 6500k daylight 65 watts. the housing is rustproof and weatherproof. it was only $29 bucks so I thought if it don't work on the tank no big deal. after I got it all hooked up it looked nice and bright , I placed it over the tank and it did not look to good. it gave off sort of a green color. I just wanted to know if any one knows if there is a better bulb that I can use with it. i had hoped to use it on a 75g FOWLR.

This is the info on the fixture.
Lights of America model 9265 fluorescent flood light
the bulb is a 4U - 65 watt .its a screw in type (much larger base then a household bulb). the electronic ballast is in the housing not on the bulb.

A lot of people use that model over their refugiums for the advantages you are mentioning.

Lights of America

I would call the manufacturer and ask them.

DP, the Kelvin rating is the color, and 6500K is pretty yellow. You can get a 10000K bulb that will be a crisp white - as long as it's still 65 watts any Kelvin rating will work.
Try Champion Lighting, I like them;

Give him a Im or an email. If it can be found he will find it for you. I needed some lights and he went out and found them for me at a great price.

If you have an older browser the site will not load up. It really hates older netscapes. try upgrading your browser o the latest version.

The first link that Craig gave doesn't work because there is a period included at the end of the hyperlink. It's an easy thing to miss!

The issue with the green is not the Kelvin rating its the color rendering of the bulb itself expressed as CRI. The higher the CRI rating of any given bulb the more perfectly it shows true colors. '

Its pretty common for a fluorescent to be green (also yellow). Photographers have to use a magenta filter to offset this color cast (or the photo lab does in most cases)

Look for a bulb that has a high CRI and you'll be happy.
