sump creation

Right now I'm trying to resurrect my 92 AGA corner tank and before I filler' up I am trying to upgrade my sump. I am in process of designing my own acrylic sump with three sections; skimmer>refuge>sump. I'm having second thoughts about making this in one piece since once its installed it won't come out. I'm thinking I would have to drop it in the stand just before I put the tank on the stand. Basically I have designed a miniature, bowing, corner sump, but if anything happens I wouldn't be able to remove it without breaking the whole tank down also. Sounds like a future disaster.

Any thoughts?

Re: sump creation

due to the basically small footprint of the 92g tank, i think you are going to have to go with the drop in sump. just leak test it before installing, and then again before filling tank. better safe than sorry~

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: sump creation

I did a drop in diy. It wasn't too bad. I did have to mess with it a bit (add baffles drill holes etc) and that wasn't too fun inside the stand. but i would do it again to get the volume.

Re: sump creation

Hey Wai!! I am looking to get one of those tanks or something similar) for a FOWLR can you post a picture of the tank for me? The picture in the AGA brochure looks cool but real life pictures are always so much better.
Thanks Kelli

Re: sump creation

My tank is sitting in the garage full of dust but I did find a pic from someone elses. One thing about this tank is that your really limited to where the tank is located. Everyone has plenty of corners but usually there aren't many ideal corners in the house. I have several corners I wanted to place the tank but its too close to a window or there's not enough wall. So that leaves me with two walls and my wife said "no" to one of them. (I didn't want it there either).

I am trying to post the pic with this thread but i'm not sure if it will work...If it doens't PM me your email and i'll send you the pics i got....

The backsides of this tank are 34" .... so its a 34"x34"x48" triangle. THe front side being the 48" straight across not counting the bow. I love this tank because it has the uniterrupted front face....

Re: sump creation

Cool thanks for the pic. I have 1 corner in my house that I can put a tank and 1 side is only 35" from the corner to the window we are looking at a 95gal pent from seaclear
that is 38" and the frame on the shutter on the window would be covered. that may be the way we go but I like to hear about other peoples experiences.
