| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Surprisingly, I have found an area of my tank that is neglected... the overflow. I cleaned it today for the first time and it was F-I-L-T-H-Y !! There must have been 1/2 inch of muck in the bottom of it. Thankfully, my Magnum HOT made cleaning it very simple. I have never thought about the diterus that settles in that area... the saying "out of sight, out of mind" fits perfect ![]() Have you cleaned your overflow lately?? ![]()

| Acropora ![]() | Good point Woodstock, I put the overflow cleaning on my list of things to do when I do water changes after I saw all the crud the other day when I installed my new skimmer. I actually cleaned my overflows today with a water change, as well as vacuming the sand, trying to scrape off the colaine algae, etc.... but yes you are right, that place IMO is a perfect breeding ground for red slime algae and a phosphate producer.... Mine was real easy, just remove the duroso stand pipes (all of it) and take my handy dandy little cleaner (long pipe, slightly bent, with a brush on the end, with a hole in the middle to suck up the sludge) and clean it up while the water is flowing thru the overflow. All that gunk goes out and into my filter socks. After the cleaning and the tank clears up a bit, I change the filter socks out.

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Great way to get it clean Dave! I am surprised that I didn't think to clean mine out sooner. It is amazing how much diterus settles in it!
