This thing can't be good

I started removing the frags in my tank to kill the Aiptasia and I found this. The thin arms are almost 6 ins long, very fast retracting, clear with bands of dark. the crushed coral seems to have hardened in to a tube. It looked like a worm head in the hole. Thanks to the members who have helped me out already and given me the great links.

It is a harmless diterus eating Terebellid or Spaghetti worm.

Here is a good link: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-06/rs/

[quoteThe white feeding tentacles of a terebellid or spaghetti worm always radiate from a burrow, tube opening or hole. These tentacles collect food particles from the surface of the sediment and convey it back to the worm’s mouth.[/quote]

Great not another fire to put out. I read the links article on these, 10ft tentacles damn ! In my next photo the question is, is the white creature on the rock to the left a baby sandshifting star. It moves rather quickly and I only find it 1 or 2 times a day on a dark rock

No, that is called an asterina star.
http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/20.../feature/index.
Some like them, others don't. IMO, not a problem, unless they reach plague proportions, and they, like many other things are controlled by the amounts of food (nutrients) available in the tank.
