Indo-Pacific Reef

I am in the planning stages of a 180. I am working around my Bartlett's Anthias and Bluegirdled Angelfish. I have decided to create an Indo-Pacific Reef. I realize this is extremely broad, that this region has the greatest reef biodiversity in the world. I need to narrow my reef area down within this region. I'm just not sure how.

I really need some direction. Does anyone know any good sites that I can start to gather information on this specific reef type?

TIA - Kim

Hello Kim from Mesa, my parents have a place in Gold Canyon!

If you are thinking of a reef with corals, Angels are known to nip. Various genus/species of tangs, clownfish, and wrasses are wonderful Indo-Pacific reef safe fish that would complimrent your Anthias. How many Anthis are you thinking about?

The view around Gold Cayon is absolutely beautiful. The Superstitions are Absolutely Majestic!! The area has been growing, lots of nice shops. Now your parents don't have to drive 15 miles for groceries...hehe

I am going for a reef with corals. I currently have the Majestic and a pair of Anthia's. I am planning this next tank with them in mind. I will definately add a couple small females for my male Anthia. I read that I needed to be reef cautious when adding this Angel. However, I don't know if I've just been lucky or if his nature will start to become apparent as he matures.....but, I have not had a single issue with him nipping at my polyps or other corals.

My obsession of late has been the habitat that I need to build. What does the rock structures look like? Caves, with overhanging ledges... I'm new... been reading... but a visual would really be nice.

I have this picture in my mind of a field of corals. Not to many different species, just a couple that represent a small area of a particular reef zone. The material that I have been reading is brief, just enough information perhaps for a school report, but not enough for actual mimicing guidelines.

I have an 80 gallon Indo-Pacific lagoon reef. I have mushrooms, polyps and ornamental clams. You can see my modest set-up in my gallery.

The current residents are a blue green chromis, pajama cardinal, royal gramma yellow eyed kole tang, sailfin tang, maroon clown. red skunk cleaner shrimp (2), crocea clams (2 - 5").

I have a deep sand bed and a 30 gallon refugium that is home to a raspberry pesuedochromis and a pair of banded sleeper gobies.

Not all angels nip, but I do know that nipping behavior becomes more prevelant as they mature. Each fish is different in it's behavior and I believe that adequate feeding may mitigate nipping by angels. It is hit and miss unfortunately, and with my croceas I wasn't willing to take a risk.

Let's keep in touch, I may be down in AZ in May and would love to see your tank!.

I checked out your gallery, Nice. It's not easy setting up a tank. Lot's of stuff to concider. I am going to start looking at drilling on the tank, but I first have to figure out what kind of flow I want to produce and my aquascape plays a roll in that.

The research continues

Let me know about your arrival to GC.

wet web media has some nice biotope articles...you may want to decide what part of the reef (back reef, patch, lagoon) then go from there, or decided what livestock is most important and find what will go with it..

my 150 indo pacific back reef and 120 indo lagoon are inthe early stages, so no corals or fish yet

sounds like it will be quite nice

"No one ships LR from Indo. period as far as I'm aware, but I assure you that the principal source, Fiji has very similar appearance and mix of non-fish life in association with theirs-Bob Fenner"

So far I know what type of LR to purchase.

forstal- I'm off to the library to research this. Wetwebmedia pointed out a number of good books which to gather information. I have quite a collection of books since starting in the hobby, I won't beable to afford the LR if I keep buying the darn books
