Lighting question.

I know that when a bulb gets older the colors shift towards yellow, but what if you buy a brand new bulb and it is yellow in appearence. I ask because I bought the XM 10k and they have been burning for almost two months now so I know they are past the 100 hr initial burn time and they are still extremely yellow. I am having a bad algae outbreak right now and I am trying to eliminate ALL things feeding the fire. So is yellow in appearence the same as the color shift when a bulb gets older? Isn't that the wave length algae likes?

TIA

I was at a meeting this weekend where Sanjay Joshi talked about different bulbs, ballasts and reflectors. According his studies (as I understood his seminar), Metal Halides do not shift in color with age they only lesson ther intensity (Par). in fact he says that we can lower the lights closer to the water as they age and have the same effects as new. He also posts a color spectrum on his website where you can compare the different spectrum of lamps and ballasts. lighting.reefs.org
