i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

can I get all that in one fixture or do I have to get it all seperate. i would like to keep soft corals and some anenomies. I see current Usa has an orbit fixture with one 150w MH, Two 96W Dual actinics and 4 lunar lights dose this sound like a good set up ?

I bought a Hamilton plug-n-play lighting fixture from captivereefs. I would rather have a wooden canopy but I love it anyway. It was a bit pricey though. I have mostly LPS and softies.... and 2 RBTA's.

That sounds like a very nice setup for what you want. 150HQI might not give enough light toward the bottom of the tank for SPS, but the softies/LPS should do well down there.

2x250watt 10k's. I would prefer 400 watters over a 70.

If money is no object and there is any chance that you might want to upgrade in the future go with the 400w like Mike mentioned above.
Otherwise, I think the 250MH 10k's would be fine.

THe perfect lighting if I had a 70 gallon would be 2 250W MHs and 2 VHOs as actinic suppliments.

With that setup, you could grow anything, as I see the 400W as a bit excessive and perhaps even a detriment (heat, low light coral stress, etc...)

Take er easy

I guess I should have clarified. I think 400 watt 20k's on a HQI ballast have great coloration and would be perfect for that sized reef.
I'm upgrading to a 400 watt DE 20k for my 400 gallon reef tank here shortly.

Yeah, well put. 400W 20K would be very nice and not so intense...

I do love the VHO supplimentation though, I must admit

Take er easy

I'm still a big fan of saki's though. That is my back up plan right now.
Might go back to running the 6500k saki's for two or three hours a day and run VHO's the rest of the day.
