| Tunicate | Hi folks, I am contemplating what equipment to purchase for my 125 gal. marine tank which I am transitioning into a reef setup. My overhead space is limited and I want the flexibilty to keep animals with high light requirements later if all goes well. I want to hang the fixture, so that feeding and maintenance does not involve lifting the light out of the way. My estimate is that the fixture will han approx. 14-18" above the water surface. I'm leaning toward a combination light 60-72" with HQI metal halides, compact fluorescents, and blue moon lights each on their own power cord for simulating dawn, dusk, day, night. The fixture must be compact and include fans for cooling. What is out there that meets these specs? Thanks very much. |

| Reefus Geekus ![]() | I really like the look of the Aqua Spacelight. Personally I have not used it (but am planning it into my next tank) but I have seen this light personally. The fixture itself is BEAUTIFUL, the light it creates is incredible, both in volume of light and in spectrum. The model I saw was a 6' 3x250w 10K HQI with some PC actinics. It does not have moonlights, but those are easily added.

| They misunderestimated me ![]() | Agreed. I would look at the Aquastarlights though. They have the moonlights ![]() Also take a look at the Giessman fixtures, I have seen these in person, and the quality of the fixtures are SUPER! Premium Aquatics carries the Aquaspacelights and Aquastarlights, just click under aquamedic under metal halide lighting fixtures. I don't remember if they carry the giessman fixtures or not.

| They misunderestimated me ![]() | I wish I could afford a light setup like you are looking for, so I decided to do some searching for you so I could drool a little bit ![]() http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merch...=Oceanlight-T5 I don't know what this contains, but it appears to have 5 halides? 3x250 and 2x150... http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merch...e=Oceanlight-h If money were no object: http://www.giesemann.de/en/meerwasse...g/260_moon.php

| Sponsor | take a look at the coralife aqualight pro. It has everything you mentioned above and is well under $1000. I have had no complaints from the 20 or so i sold this year. THe aquamedics are nice as well.

| They misunderestimated me ![]() | I use the aqualight pro units at my store. Nice fixture, very suprised that corallife put togther a nice unit like this. However they only come in 150 watt, which I don't think will be bright enough for suspending 14" above the water surface. Plus the geisemann units are much sexier ![]() Might also want to look into the coarlvue 400watt DE setups No PC's or moonlights, but who needs em when you can say you have 400watt DE ![]()

| Tunicate | Thanks for your advice. I am going with a light from Cool Touch Lighting who operates on www.aquariumlight.com. They are making me a custom aluminum canopy built to my specs with 2-250 watt double ended metal halides with Ushio 10000K lamps, 2 140 watt VHO with Actinic corallife lamps & waterproof end caps, 4 1 watt moonlights, electronic Icecap ballasts, dual fan kit, glass UV shield, and chains for hanging for $1136.00. I thought this was a good price for what I'm getting and they are mounting the fixtures where I want them to fit my tank. I'll post pictures when I get it. |
