Chevrons and grazing

Anyone have experience with chevrons or maybe the close relative the kole? When chevrons are first introduced to a tank its a great sign when they start grazing like mad on the live rock and the glass.

Question is, is the algae on the rock and the glass enough to sustain it? The chevron doesnt go near the flakes or plankton or even the Nori. - its as if he doesnt realize its food that he should eat.

Do these fish eventually learn the behavior to eat OR due to the anatomical structure of their mouth, they are just meant to "graze"?

Anyone?

Thanks Dave.

I read those articles so I guess its ok since they are grazing like mad.

Anyone have experience with the chevron? Do they eat other food and if so, how long does it take?

Any tricks I can at least get it to start nibbling on the Nori?

Thanks!

I just minced a broccoli floret and poured it into the tank...at first the fish ran away...then they tried it and loved it and feasted on it. All except the chevron. He is just interested in grazing. Whats up with that?

Thats what they do man.....its how their teeth are designed... pull algae off the rockwork, not grab it out of the water column. Its gonna take some time for your chevron to figure that out.

Well I will leave him alone and let him do his thing. He MUST be eating enough because in one corner of the tank, the sand bed is his own personal litterbox! I guess he will figure things out eventually.

Thanks Nick.

You can also try rubberbanding some nori to some liverock. He may take to eating it better in that case. The smaller the piece of nori the better.
