| Torch coral | Old Live Rock In my gagage, I have had some LR (small pieces) sitting in a 20g tank that is about half full of SW. I was using the 20g tank to cure new LR when I started my 50 back in June. The tank is no longer in use. The filter and heater on the 20g have not be in service for months (maybe as long as 3 months). The gagage is cold. If I had to guess, the water temp. is probably about 50 deg., give or take. I was thinking of starting a nano tank at in my office at work and was wondering if I could use any of that LR. Is this rock "dead"? Is it usable for what LR is intended to be used for? I bought a few "new" pieces from my LFS, and used the new and old rock, will bacteria from the new grow onto the old making it "live" again? Thanks for the info.

| Scopas Tang ![]() | Yep, the LR is most likely "dead". Yeah, it's usable and yes if you buy some new LR and put it with the "dead" LR it will reseed the LR making it "live again" . The "dead" LR is probably in need of a scrub down and posably a boiling. I recommend both, this will rid the LR of detritus and die off. Your "dead" LR will then be white and begging to be reseeded with some new LR.

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | You could use it to help cycle your new office tank. With no circulation/oxygen nor heat there won't be much much life on it; but bacterium are everywhere~~
