| Smilie Bartender ![]() | Yellow leather in trouble Looks like I got the 180 running a bit too late. In the overcrowded 55, my little yellow leather was getting stung by my frogspawn. I'm not sure how long it was going on for, but now it's lost a fair amount of tissue in that area. and staying closed up. This is one of my favorite corals, I'd like to do everything possible to save it. But I know this is one of those corals that's hard to bring back when it starts going south. I waited a long time to find a captive-raised yellow leather because they don't seem to ship well, and the ones in the stores always seem to go south. So this won't be an easy one to replace. The area of tissue loss is more cheese-like than anything else, no real infections to speak of or black necrosis. I plan to place it in a higher-flow area, in front of a MJ1200 on a wavemaster pro. I can also dip it, I have Kent Tech-D and Lugol's. Recommendations on which to use, if any? Any other advice? I also fear that the change in environment is complicating the situation. It went from being under (basically) 2x96 PC to the 2x250W MH and 220 of VHO in the 180. My choices are to put it in a lower-light area with moderate flow, or higher light (on the bottom of the 24" tank) and in front of that maxi-jet. Help appreciated, as always. ![]() T |

| Smilie Bartender ![]() | I should add, all my other corals are reacting very well to the lighting change. But then again, they're not sick. ![]()

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | I have had a yellow toadstool get stung by different hammer and shrooms and it recovered just fine. It took it a while to open fully again (couple of weeks), but it eventually recovered. Wouldn't the new light give it more energy to repair itself? My TS loved when I switched my lighting from PC. Good Luck Travis! I hope it makes it!

| Contributing Member ![]() | Travis, if things start to look bad, you could always frag it. Keep an eye on it for a bit. I'm not sure a dip would be a good idea....too many changes at once might put too much stress on the coral.

| Yoda Poohbah~ ![]() | another thing to remember is leathers are natoriously moody creatures,,,with the change in tank parameters, lighting and getting stung,,it may not open up for a bit. when i ripped out my DSB and did a major overhaul to the tank, my toadstool and devils hand threw a fit and didnt open for almost 2 weeks. also since you are now using hadides keep an eye on temp. i can tell if my tank is over 81* just by looking at the leathers,,they pout...lol
