What causes coralline to turn white?

I have a piece of LR placed right under one of my return lines to help displace the water. I just did a water change (30%) and the piece of LR that’s right under the inlet turned white? I used the same salt (IO) & left the salt mix up overnight.

exposure to air will turn coraline white when you did your water change did it bring your water level down that low

yes i agree air will do it, was it exposed to the air and for how long?

How are your calcium levels? Could they have dropped? Are you adding Kalk? Low calcium is one of the main reasons that coralline turns white.

That's probably it I did drain it down lower than I usually do because I also cleaned out the sump & skimmer at the same time! I use that piece of LR just below the main return line to spread out the water flow, And that’s the piece that turned white which was probably ½ way out of the water for about two hours. The rest of the LR & corals were under water & I have two powerheads that are far enough down that they kept the water moving until I finished the cleaning & water change.

I haven't checked it yet since I did the WC! But I was at 420 before so I don't think it would drop much? And yea I drip Kalk 24/7

Several days before I did the water change I also re-worked my return line from my refugium which also left that same piece of LR out of the water for around another couple of hours. So the total time out of the water over a couple of days was about 4 hours!

Now that I believe I figured out what caused it to turn white! Will it turn purple again?
