To Brucey or anyone who uses Milliput

Hey mate.

I remember you telling me that you use Milliput to attach your corals to the live rock. You explained it was a two part clay adhesive.

Question:

If I use milliput and then later decide I want to put the coral elsewhere, does it detach easily? Or is it like that Apoxy glue which is like cement and oyu havew to break it off the rock?

Thanks for your help.

Hey AJ - while you wait for Brucey to respond...

Here is a link to Milliput Products

At the top is a link where you can find a dealer. Sounds like it might be similar to other 2 part epoxys.

Hope this helps for the time being.

Thanks Nikki...that site was a big help. Cant believe I didnt think of googling and finding that site myself. Thank you!

But now the problem....when it "sets" its virtually like cement. So now Im back to square one. I have to assume that when I place a coral in my tank that one of 2 things will happen 1.)I want to relocate it somewhere else in the tank or 2.)it will die.

I want to be able to move or remove it relatively easy. I guess Im out of luck.

AJ,
I don't use milleput, but I use a two part epoxy product from Home Depot called Aquamend. You knead the two parts togther until it turns grey and then you mold it on and stick the coral in it. It does take a little practice to use, putty works differently than superglue gel. It doesn't really adhere to the coral or live rock, instead you work it into the nooks and crannies on the live rock, and then stickt he end of the coral into the putty and it dries hard pretty quick.
As far as removing corals, I've had no problems popping corals right off the putty base, or sometimes the entire putty base pops off the rock, depending which one it has a better hold on.

AJ - another trick you can use is - take a piece of live rock rubble, use super glue gel to glue the frag/coral to it, then you are able to move the rubble around the tank. When you find the final place for the coral, you can then use the epoxy to bond the rubble piece to the live rock.
