Question Lighting Question

The current lighting on my 50g is a Coralife Aqualight 192W (1-96 watt Actinic and 1-96 watt 10,000K)-Compact Fluorescent Lamp. I seem to like the appearance of the tank better with just the 96w Actinic bulb on. Is this a problem? Do I really need the 10000K bulb on too? Can the 10000K bulb be replace with anything else? I have some GSP's and zoo's.

Thanks

I would think, to give the daytime affect, but if u want more blue, theres the 50/50 bulb, and the 6500 bulb for better growth, i wouldnt just run the blues all the time.

EDIT: I DIDN'T SEE HUNTERD'S POST. I GUESS IT IS GOOD THAT WE AGREED LOL.

Most PC actinics aren't really actinics. I know there is one brand that is and yours may be it. I'm not sure but hopefully someone else will remember.

Maybe you could replace the 10k with a 50/50 bulb for a happy medium.

I also agree that actinics alone won't be beneficial, and also that most "actinic bulbs" aren't really actinic, but the problem is that they still don't pack the punch that the 10,000K's do. Replacing the 10,000K with a 50/50 would be fine, and also give you lotsa blue. In my Current USA fixture, there's really cool bulbs, both are 50/50, but still the blue and white are seperate bulbs. The actinic bulb is half true actinic, and half blue, while the white bulb is half 10,000k and half 6,500k.
