White Substrate

Lately, I've noticed that my substrate is not as white as it used to be. In certain areas, it's sort of grey. Looking closely, the individual grains are grey, not white. As anyone ever had this happen? Can you add new substrate to an existing tank?

You can add more, but its more of a PITA than its worth IMO. If it really bothers you, you can siphon small patches out and see if it makes a difference.

Two suggestions, your lighting may be getting old and if not , try a few fighting conchs . They keep my sand very white and clean.

Lighting is Compact Flouresent and is 4 month old. Is that old? I don't know.

No, 4 months on coralife PC's is still pretty new, you probably have another 6-8 months on your bulbs left. I would also reccomend some conch's, or even a tigertail cucumber, they're kinda funky, but kinda cool at the same time, and I don't think the tigertails are poisonis to the tank if the worst happens.
