Exclamation Goby very skinnie, what to do?

HI all,

I have an orange spoted watchman goby since 6 months ago aprox. He used to be always outside and moving sand all day but now he rarely goes out and look very skinnie.
I guess he is not eating well but what can I do?
I feed marine pellets and he eats them and so brine shrimp. Im really worried about him.
Suggestions?

Re: Goby very skinnie, what to do?

Do you have a LFS near you where you can get some other frozen foods?? Like Myasis shrimp and such.. or you can go to the deli and get some fresh raw shrimp, oysters, muscles etc. soak them in RO water and in Selcon and Vitachem.. chop them up very small and see if he will eat that.. you can target feed with a turkey baster too

maybe the pellets aren't enough nutrition.. I have never fed my fish pellets, always homemade mush, so I'm not sure on the pellet issue

These fish depend on a mature SB and will eat the infauna as it sifts through the sand and although some adjust to prepared foods and will eat from the water column not all do unfortunately.

Re: Goby very skinnie, what to do?

I have frozen mix of spirulina, myasis and brine, but will get only myasis. I will try target feeding but seems difficult since he doesnt show very often.
My fuge is just starting so I'll have to wait for it to produce food.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure that you can buy pods if that is what you are waiting for the fuge to produce.. but if what Robert said is true, not sure that target feeding or pods would matter

Re: Goby very skinnie, what to do?

Gobys sometimes have worms in their stomach they wont kill the fish they just eat the food that he has eaten.. feed him more, I have a diamond goby I feed him small pieces of silver side fish. I read about this problem in a magazine just feed him more and he should gain the weight back. If he isn't eating at all try using Garlic Extreem its a product of Kent.

Re: Goby very skinnie, what to do?

Pellets I use have garlic and he eats them. I think one major problem is that he spend much time hidding so when I feed fish he doesnt notice so... he doesnt eat.
I cannot figure out how to leave food for him in tank's bottom.
Target feeding is difficult because of same, when I approch tank he hides.
Greetings
