| Plate Coral | Sebae anemone - continued I tried to help my anemone along by digging a small hole in the sand up against a piece of live rock. I placed him in there and he seems to have stayed put for a few days now, but I cant tell if he is just existing or if he actually has stuck himself to the rock. Any ideas? Also I noticed now my 2 percs are swimming in the area....they get to about 2 inches away from the anemone and just kind of sit there....is this how it is? Will they eventually go in and use it as a host? Or do they usually just go for it without hanging around it. Anyone? Thanks! |

| Manta Ray ![]() | Sebae is really kind a generic name for many Heractis anemones....can you post a pic? The requirements for various Heractis anemones are different.... Also, can you post up some tank stats? How long its been up and running, lighting, circulation, etc... also chemistry in the tank, (temp, salinity, ammonia, Nitrates, nitrites, PH, etc... Nick

| Plate Coral | I got the water tested recently and all the stats are fine....Its a 46 bowfront and its been up and running 7 months now. All the fish are doing fine and some pretty funky stuff has been crawling out of the liverock at night. The temp has been a little high (low 80's) because the fan is broken, but Ill get that fixed shortly and bring it back down to 78 degrees...ammonia, etc etc all 0 and the calcium, etc I have been told is in the correct range. I'll try to get a pic tonight and post it up.....its white with a little purple dots at the tips. At least its not rolling around anymore and turning itself upside down. But again Im not sure yet if got sticky and stuck itself to the rock or not....maybe the pic will give you an idea. Also you think the percs are scoping out the territory before they dive right on in? Do they know what to do? Is it instinct? Thanks. AJ |

| Manta Ray ![]() | I think they are eyebealling things right now...which is good, cause your anemone isnt ready for them. To be honest, your tank is abit young...things arent entirely stable just yet...this usually occurs around 12 months or so......unless the live rock is from a previously established tank.... Temp, from what I've been reading, these anemones do a little better in the 80-82 range.... But heres the biggest issue......The anemone is white....this means its lost all its Zooxanthellae...either due to shipping stress, or bad lighting at the store. If this anemone is to survive, you will need to feed it regularly, and frequently. Are its tentacles still sticky? They should cling to your hand if you touch it...this indicates a healthy feeding response which means it might survive. Also, you didnt post what type of lighting you have over the tank.... Nick

| Plate Coral | I have two 65 watt bulbs...one white, the other actinic. I didnt touch the tentacles because I didnt want to damage it. But next water change I will try. I did some research and I see these anemones sold online and many of them are white...I will post a pic later of mine so you can see. Why isnt it ready for the percs? I mean dont they help each other out and wont the percs bring it food? Also I notice this anemone is open a lot where you can see its center, or its "mouth" I guess....Does this mean its trying to feed or is something not right? Thanks for the insight. |

| Reef Shark ![]() | A bleached sebae anemone can be brought back to it's natural coloration, but it will need excellent lighting, (metal halides in most cases), and good feedings to survive. The natural color of these is brownish/purple , tannish, greyish, etc...NEVER white. Here's a little info on them, with pics that show some of it's natural colors: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/marine/in...eraccrispa.htm General Anemone information: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/marine/in...a/anemones.htm http://www.carlosreef.com/AnemoneFAQ.pdf

| Plate Coral | Maxx said: "I think they are eyebealling things right now...which is good, cause your anemone isnt ready for them." What added stress would the percs cause the anemone? I would think they would HELP it. But if theyre hanging around in the area you would think theyre checking it out? |

| Reef Shark ![]() | As the clowns try to host in the anemone, that causes it stress...It is trying to heal and acclimate, and clowns get pretty forceful in the hosting process. It can be stressful to an anemone...It's never "helpful" to an anemone...the best the anemone gets out of it is the clown MIGHT feed the anemone.
