| Reef Lobster | Well, it depends on your definition of 'overkill'... I have a buddy running 1600w over a 47g bowfront... but like he says, "I like using my electric meter as a fan"... ![]() It also depends on the kelvin temp of the bulb... 2 400w 20K's have about the same PAR as two 250w 10K bulbs. Your corals will love it... and your electric company will too... ![]() You will need a pretty beefy chiller to take away the heat though, so that's something else to keep in mind. HTH

| Reef Lobster | LOL... your landlord might think twice once he gets the bill for your apartment... ![]() Ushio 10K's are great bulbs and have a long life (about 18 months), but they are also a tinge yellow. I've seen good things about the Hamilton 14K's, but am not sure as to how long they last. The nice thing with the 14K's though is that you won't need nearly as much actinic supplementation as you would with the Ushio's to get the bluish-white light... I'm running 165w of actinic for every 250w of halide in my reef to combat the yellow. I pretty much have the same setup you're looking at... Ushio 10K with PC Actinic supplementation, the color is awesome, and I get good growth as well... I think you'll be happy. ![]()

| Scopas Tang | I'm sure the landlord will send you an extra little bill in the mail to cover above normal electric use. also the 400watters will produce a massive heat issue in a tank that size. from a 78 temp tank to a 88- 90 temp in no time. with no chiller... just a guess though.
