| Fire Coral | Adding Rock to Established Tank Hi RS, I have had a healthy tank running for about 5 months now. I want to add more rock so I can have more spots for corals and make my DT a little more eye catching. My question is: If I add dead, dry rock will it cause another cycle?

| Tridacna maxima ![]() | Re: Adding Rock to Established Tank To start a cycle you need a source of ammonia. In order to have ammonia, something has to die/decay. So if the rock has nothing live on it that will die off, and assuming you don't kill anything in the process of adding the rock ;-) - you won't get a cycle.
