| Plate Coral | Re: flea spray Make sure you open all the doors and windows and maybe even run some window fans pushing air out for at least 20 minutes before uncovering the tank after treatment. I wouldn't use a lot in the vicinity of the tank and try to keep the can as low to the ground as possible when spraying. Read the label and keep the tank covered for as long as the recommended evacuation time. p.s. before you spray it is best to vacuum thourougly and then throw the bag out away from the house when you are done. The flea eggs can lay dormant and not be affected by some over the counter sprays, vacuuming will suck them up or trigger them to hatch(the vibration). Be sure to spray again at least a week after your first treatment(and possibly a 3rd time) and put your pets on a product like frontline to assure you don't get them again. I have read some literature that non-chemical treatments can be effective against fleas like diatomaceous earth but I have never used it. As a chemical route I would recommend Precore 2000 plus...good knockdown and good residual growth inhibitor and available without a licence in most states. --pest control technician

| Tubeworm | Re: flea spray I bought some stuff from a local exterminateing, can't remember the name but it had IGR. Instead of spraying I soaked rags in it and used it to mop the floors ( i have hardwood floors through out the house). I did't spray around the aquarium and when I did spray i sprayed close to the ground. I took all other pets out of the house, suprisingly the dogs and cat dont really have fleas, they get monthly treatments with frontline and weekly flea baths. I have no idea where this out break came from, it seemed to happen over night. Any way I put extra carbon in the filtration so hopefully everything makes it or i'm going to be pissed. |

| Midas Blenny | Re: flea spray The problem with any volatile product (even if you aren't spraying it), is that a certain amount of it will become aerosolized. If you can smell it, it's in the air and a certain amount of it can enter your tank. Obviously, you want to find out what's in these fumes and just how toxic it can be to marine organisms and at what levels. I would second the advice above to cover the tank as tightly as possible and to turn off all devices that might create turbulence at the water surface. Remove any highly sensitive specimens to a safe place if possible - perhaps your LFS can assist you. |

| Elegance coral | Re: flea spray ugh.. fleas...I had a flea issue a few years back. It took us 3 months to get rid of them and we only lived in a 1 bedroom house. We bombed and sprayed, again and again. We let a friend barrow our vacume and he brought it back full of fleas, thats how we got'em. The trick is to be consistant and not to miss any knook or cranny. Be sure to treat your couches and bedding and even your clothes, any and all fabric in the house. If you have a basement be sure to treat down there too.....

It's ALL gotta go!! Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change. Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian) This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.
