| Pistol Shrimp | 20 gallon tank -- need skimmer? Hi everyone, Im setting up a 20L and am wondering if I need to include a skimmer if Im going to be running a 5 gallon refugium with chaeto?? I was thinking about getting a CPR bakpak because i can get one for $35...but is it necessary? Just wanted to know your thoughts and opinions. I would really like to only grow softies and LPS in this tank because it isnt going to be a lifelong tank, just a temporary fix Thanks a lot everyone!Cheers

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: 20 gallon tank -- need skimmer? It is really a personal decision. I have an Aqua C Remora on my 20g but I also have an anemone in the tank and need to keep the water quality great. A skimmer will help keep the tank clean but a 20g needs a lot of maintenance no matter what equipment you have.

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: 20 gallon tank -- need skimmer? Yep. That should be about perfect. Since the tank is so shallow, I would even say LPS should be good with that.

| Limpet | Re: 20 gallon tank -- need skimmer? I would say go for it. It's not going to hurt (other than a few cents in electricity and maybe a bit of heat due to the additional pump)... Worst case you sell it. Just do understand in advance that you're going to spend a MONTH getting it "broken in" and set up right before it starts skimming consistently and stops spewing microbubbles.
