| Pistol Shrimp | old sand and lace rock question! Hey everyone, I have old aragonite from an old FW tank and some lace rock. I am setting up a 20L and am wondering can i use this old sand and rock? Is there any way to clean the sand to rid it of old nitrates that have built up over time? Are there any issues with using lace rock in a reef tank? I am going to be seeding the sand with a little live sand and some live rock. Let me know if anyone has any ideas, thoughts, or comments about this topic. I would really like to use this sand and rock and not have to buy too much new stuff. Its pretty nice sand, I think it's size 1 & 2? Cheers

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: old sand and lace rock question! The biggest question is was copper ever used in the tank? Inverts cannot take copper even in small amounts. I am not familiar with lace rock so I don't know what it is made of. If the sand is arragonite then you should be good there with just a good wash.

| Sea Pen | Re: old sand and lace rock question! The rocks will be fine. I used all my old lace rock from my cichlid tanks in my reef. Its not the prettiest rock with respect to reef tanks, but once it gets a nice dose of pink, you wont know the difference. Just give it a nice wash. |
