Angry Crapoloa!

Two steps forward one step back. I picked up the HQI's and a second ballast today, so of course I test them out as they are used (you should always check your equipment)!! But I didn't check thoroughly enough. I placed one of the HQI's onto one of the cross braces ya know checking out the light coverage and whatnot and after a while CRACK!!!!! there goes the brace. The bulb in the HQI unti was a 1000 watt generic and I guess it heated up to much for the regular non-UV glass of the brace (the UV glass on the fixture suffered no damage).

Well that's good, can you just buy a brace or will you have to make one?

Re: Crapoloa!

I'll just buy a piece of 1/2 inch glass and silicone it in. I am hoping that some people with a similar experience chime in on a plan of attack, and I had no idea that a light could/would shatter any portion of glass on the tank considering that there is glass on the light fixture itself.

Re: Crapoloa!

On the bright side I have two working lights (that I need new bulbs for) and sand and the plumbing is finished, plus I have a large trash can that will be filled with RO to make saltwater. I just need to order some nylon rods (hope Lowe's has some) for my aquascaping.

Re: Crapoloa!

Well, at least you found out about the center-brace before you put water in. When mine failed, it was an established tank!
