Re: should i be using any additives???

another reason i brought this up is that my father in law has i 180g and he pours in bottle upon bottle of stuff and his fish are doing great but corals not so good he had a zoo colony and that only lasted about 3 weeks but his shrooms are doing good.

i add nothing and i have candy cane that looks great and shrooms that reproduce seemingly every day

Re: should i be using any additives???

Fish can "tolerate" much worse water params than Coral can.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!
Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: should i be using any additives???

Whether you need to add anything depends on how your new mixes test, and how frequently you do water changes. If everything mixes fine and you do regular WC, then no additives should be necessary.

With that said, some supplements can be quite useful. IMO bleaching anemones can benefit greatly from small iodine doses, macroalgage loves iron, and low calcium levels may need magnesium supplementation. Most supplements should be used to correct certain issues, but are not required if all else is well.
