| Tunicate | toadstool question ? Ive read that toadstools put off a chem that is toxic to LPS corals .. i had asked this question before ,and was asked as a respose if i used activated carbon .which i did at the time .. so my question is does the toadstool do this as a defense? tring to keep its realestate or if another coral is too close? or dose the toadstool do this all the time? the reason i ask is becuase i did run carbon only for this reason ,to remove that toxic that the toad is or could be putting off .. i normally wouldnt use activated carbon .so today it was time to clean media bag and change activated carbon i didnt replace it ,just cleaned it out ...Oh the toadstool is on the oposite side of the tank from lps, they both seem very happy and both growing like mad men.. thanks in advance |

| Smile Maker | Re: toadstool question ? Sarcophytons and other leather corals as well as gorgonians produce terpenoids to keep other corals from colonizing their immediate territory. In the ocean, this is not a problem as dilution makes haste of these substances. In the closed confines of an aquarium, these substances can build up to toxic levels. I have a large yellow leather about an inch from a torch coral with no ill effects. However, I run carbon 24/7 and change it regularly. |

| Golden Moray | Re: toadstool question ? I had 7 toadstools in my tank on one side. I lost several LPS near them. Now that i got rid of 4 moved one to another tank the two left seem to having no ill effects on the tank. Strong water flow and carbon should help.
