90 Planning Stage

Currently planning a 90 gallon Aga tank with overflow, actually pick it up today. Want an sps tank and clams. Also want it to be as automated as possible. will have an 50 or 60 gallon sump. will be making own stand and canopy( 4 years of wood shop). was thinking 250 watt Mh x 2 and vho lighting. info I need good calcium reactor for this amount of water, have a remora pro don;t know if this will be big enough for this amount of water. so might have to upgrade this. have many books but none that are specfic to sps or clams so would like to get hands on one that address these topics. upgrading from 46 gallon tank. already have ro/di unit ,4x 95 w vho and the skimmer and hang on refuge. Any suggestions will be great, my timeline for this is 6 months or so. Thanks

Well reccomendations towards books that address SPS or Clams...
Gotta go w/ Eric Borneman's book on "Aquarium Corals". Followed by Anthony Calfo's book "Book of Coral Propagation, Vol 1".
For clams the definitive book is Daniel Knop's book "Giant Clams".
I would reccomend looking up and researching Calcium reactors from Geosreef, my reef creations, or Korralin. I've seen a geo reactor, and heard great things about them. I bought a MRC reactor, cause I got a great deal on it. Looks pretty good, but havent plugged it in yet.
I would definately upgrade your skimmer. The Remora skimmer wont be nearly enough to give the water quality you need to keep clams and SPS.
Here is a link to a skimmer manufacturer that is pretty informative...explained alot about skimmers to me. You might find it interesting.
Hope all of this helps,
Nick

Hi Dakota, I upgraded from the 46 to 90 AGA also. I have 2 clams and about 16 small sps colonies. I'm using the GEO calcium reactor and Turboflotor 1000 skimmer. Both seem to be adequate for this setup. I recommend using a kalk drip even with a calcium reactor as I've noticed my skimmer works much better when I'm dripping kalk. The coralline algea growth is also improved.
