Moonlighting - Survey

I'm looking to add moonlighting to my new 50g FOWLR. The tank is 36" long. I wanted to know what type of moonlighting others use. Where did you buy it, are you happy with it.

I have a 2x65W CSL fixture with moonlighting built in over my prop tank. Love the fixture, I don't think moonlighting makes a difference.... at all.

hey
i built my own moonlight and works great
using 3x5mm 6000mcd leds
heres a pic of what it looks like turned on in the dark

i also have led fans in my canopy to cool down the lights, they are pretty much just for show
havent tried them out just yet, so i dont know their effect on the overall moonlight

I got a coralife moonlight when I purchased my new fixture. It's nicve, but just for asthetics. If you're handy go the route of FateX8 and DIY.

Built my own with some LED bulbs, resistors, PVC pipe for housing and an AC adapter. All for $20. DYI is definately the way to go.

hahaha, no not quite that cheap. but looking at that pic they really do look like spray pain lids. lol... THey are actually 1 1/2" ABS endcaps. i used ABS cause they were allready black and they have a nice flat bottom for mounting LEDS. After it was all wired up and tested i filled the inside of the endcaps with Si, to keep out the moisture.

Check out www.theLebos.com. They have DIY plans for only a few dollars. They are also now selling an adapter that automatically sets the brightness of the LEDs to the different moon phases.

I have the setup stated above on my 20-gallon reef, and the Marc Weiss Magnum Moon Light on my 92-gallon reef.

I like them both very much.

Good Luck and Have Fun!!!
