| Tubeworm | Rain-X on Glass I don't know if anyone has tried this before. I was sick of having to scrape the salt off the outside of my glass & then clean the streaks that salt water leaves on the glass. I'm pretty anal about having spotless glass to look thru. I happen to live in Michigan & use Rain-X brand windshield washer fluid. While driving home from work in the beautiful dirty/slushy/snow filled weather that Michigan blesses us with I thought "Why couldn't this work with my Reef tank?" Well, I tried it this past week & can't believe how easily the glass cleans up now! I did a water change in my nano & moved around rock which ends up leaving salt drips every where...I was able to just gently wipe it right off with a towel. Haven't seen how it will affect the salt creep on my Q-Tank yet, but it has been awesome for cleaning the glass. Just a random post that I thought I would share with those people who are sick of streaks & having to really work to clean off their tank! |

| Tubeworm | Re: Rain-X on Glass I thought about that myself, but figured couldn't be any worse than windex? I use windex all the time & have never had a problem. Plus it's something you apply not spray which is a more controlled. Also having a nano there really isn't any way to get it into the water with the cover down & there's a plastic lip around the glass on top & bottom. I don't really have my hands on the outside of the glass too much & then put them into the inside of the tank either. I try my best to not touch the glass at all & just wipe it off with a towel if I do. Another thing I forgot to metion is if you use a magnetic algae scraper you will never have it move along the glass smoother ![]() |

| Excellent Guesser :D | Re: Rain-X on Glass Hmm. What are the ingredients on Rain-x? Windex is mostly ammonia which can be metabolized by our nitrogen cycle bacteria. I'm just concerned about touching the tank or rubbing up against the glass and then possibly putting my hands and arms in the tank with the rain-x on them. Good to know about the magnetic algae scrubber. lol.
