| Smile Maker | Re: Will the addition of Chaeto slowly kill off my CUC??? Absolutely not! If anything, it will increase your CUC diversity. Why do you ask? |

| Smile Maker | Re: Will the addition of Chaeto slowly kill off my CUC??? Although that seems reasonable, the fact of the matter is that it will help to control those compounds we don't want in our system like nitrate and phosphate. Which, by the way, are not nutrients that our corals or fish use to in any appreciable amount. If your algae population does become depleted you can supplement by adding Nori to feed herbivores. |

| Achilles Tang | Re: Will the addition of Chaeto slowly kill off my CUC??? well i know right now my CUC is a little on the small side and i was going to add some more of a different variety of snails and hermits. i just wanted to make sure that adding chaeto wouldn't take away a food source for these guys if i added them. i should have the chaeto by wednesday |

| Tridacna maxima | Re: Will the addition of Chaeto slowly kill off my CUC??? Scott is spot on as usual. You will be fine adding the chaeto. Monitor your CUC and see how things in the tank look. If there is still stuff to clean up, then boost the CUC. If things are super clean then consider either reducing their number or supplementing feeding.

| Tridacna maxima | Re: Will the addition of Chaeto slowly kill off my CUC??? I can't recommend that. Let your tank be your guide. Is there still algae present? Does there appear to be enough for the CUC to eat? If not, feed them. For the record, I have never had to feed my CUC. The Chaeto is not going to be a cure all for excess nutrients. It will help tremendously, but you won't starve your CUC with it.

| Golden Moray | Re: Will the addition of Chaeto slowly kill off my CUC??? yes kindda sorrta.. In short If the cheto takes up the nutrents that fuel the CUC's food soruce.. then in time the Cuc could starve. i think the cheto is really good tho... If you feel your cuc is not doing so well.. your tank might be clean and you should back off on the cuc. I hate seeing over stocked CUC's and starved... but for cheto i think your safe with it...

| Smile Maker | Re: Will the addition of Chaeto slowly kill off my CUC??? It's best to not fret over whether your CUC will have enough to eat. As human beings we can not possibly fathom what it is like to be at their level of life. They have evolved to find food in places we may never think to look or even know exist in our own tanks. It's a closed system and it will obtain a balance between the living and the resources available. There is no formula for the ideal biological system as every tank is different in many respects. If you strive to attain and consciously feed every individual CUC member then your tank will take on a whole other level than someone who feeds judiciously. You may not like that. |
