Sump Help

Hi,

I am in the process of setting up my 200gal tank with 70 gal sump. The sump has 6 partitions which I am not sure what to do about. I have the last partition (the biggest one) used to house the overflow and skimmer. What shall I do with the rest?

Thanks!

Re: Sump Help

Many times those "sections" are really just "Bubble Traps". Are the partitions are varying heights? There should be another "Sizeable" section for where the Return Pump goes.

Your best best is to snap some pictures of it (top down and from the side) and post them. Then we can try and make educated suggestions.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Sump Help

a little scaled down.. but should give you a little thought

as for the last section houseing the skimmer... I recommend not.

the last section should be as low as it can be for the return pump not to suck air.

house your heaters and skimmers and what ever you need in the center or first receiving section.. you need your ATO in the last return section.

Re: Sump Help

Not every sump is designed like the one Burning shows. A pic would help.
