| Tunicate | help me-backflow problem- anyone using a check valve. Has anyone installed a check valve in the line from the pump to the tank. I'm having a problem stopping backflow when pump turned off. The hole in elbow at top of tube where goes into tank not doing the job. Going to drill hole bigger, but wondering if a check valve might be a better way to go. If you use a check valve where is it located. |

| Do I look as lost as I am ![]() | Re: help me-backflow problem- anyone using a check valve. Check valves work GREAT until you rely on one. You don't know they fail until you're cleaning up water! A) Make an additional hole in another area because a SNAIL will park on top of the existing one at the worse possible time B) Allow for X-amount of back-flow into your sump area just in case. C) Make your outlets (they become INLETS in a power out situation) closer to the surface of the water so they create an additional Siphon Break Good luck and Happy Reefing ![]()

It's ALL gotta go!! Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change. Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian) This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%. Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!! | Achilles Tang | Re: help me-backflow problem- anyone using a check valve. yup Al is right we used to use them at work for our pumps for a chemicals but you dont know they are bad until you went into the pump room with hydrofloric acid all over the place. im guessing it would be the same on an arquarium pump |
