Re: Toadstool Leather

They "pout/slouch" often.

By shedding does it look like it's simply sloughiing off a layer of skin? this is normal.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Re: Toadstool Leather

Give it some flow and a day or two.
Unless it gets mushy you should be good.

Re: Toadstool Leather

Ok i am not quite as optimistic. How old is your tank? How long have you had it? Have you added anything else to your tank, including "treatments" of any kind? I can attest to the fact that a tank that is not fully cycled or has nitrites then your stool has very little chance. Shaun

Re: Toadstool Leather

Mine just got cranky a few days ago, alot of the arms got shriveled and black, then it completely closed up. Now, its fine. These corals are weird and finicky, i would give it a few days and see what happens.

Re: Toadstool Leather

What are the exact parameters of the tank. I would more than likely just give it some more time, they get bitter sometimes and just dont come out to play. Then you wake up and its fine, mine JUST went through it...haha.

Re: Toadstool Leather

Give it time. Mine will pout for days and days and then just perk up. The good news is that after the "pout" it usually comes back with more growth and better looking.

Re: Toadstool Leather

Mine pouted for a very long time, almost 3 weeks when I added him. It stayed slouched and didn't show a sign of life, except shedded in the third week, it came to life one day, happier than ever.

It has done this since also... has pouted for a few days at a time.

I say just patience and wait it out.

Re: Toadstool Leather

If polyps are coming out at all, I would consider that a good sign.

Re: Toadstool Leather

They can be very finicky. When I added mine to my tank, it stayed smooth for about 2 months, I am not kidding. Then it slowly started to extend its polyps. As long as it is not deteriorating, it is probably just ticked off.

Re: Toadstool Leather

Mine didn't show it's polyps for 3 days after i put him in. then he finally opened up. I had put a zoa rock near him a few days after that and he closed up again for about 4 days. I moved him to another spot away from the large zoa rock and then he opened up nearly right away..

as far as his slouching... he does that almost every night when the lights go out. i see him in the morning all bent over like he had a few shots of Glen levit too many. once the lights go on he stands up tall and shortly after his polyps come out again.

my toadstool sheds it's skin once in a while.. it kind of looks like elmers glue peeling off your hands... or snake skin......

what is around the one in your tank?
