| Pistol Shrimp | bubble trap vs. filter sock Alright, I can't get these micro bubbles to go away. STILL!! I have a CPR bak-pak 2. I have unplugged it for a while. I have checked all the little hoses to make sure they were right. Everything seems fine. The bubbles just started one day. The set up isn't new. I was reading on the unit and you can get a bubble trap for it but the reviews isn't good. You can also get a filter sock?? Does anyone out there use one in there system? And how do they do towards micro bubbles, because my tank looks really bad and I am going nuts. |

| Do I look as lost as I am ![]() | Re: bubble trap vs. filter sock I am against any type of "Filter" media that you have to change. If you don't clean/change it often you'll create more problems for yourself. Have you tried cleaning the unit thoroughly? It could be just a trapped air bubble in an elbow or something.

It's ALL gotta go!! Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change. Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian) This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%. | over caffinated reefer | Re: bubble trap vs. filter sock i differ from Al, i love filter socks have 7 of them!! i change them daily takes just seconds. cleaning them i have a bucket i keep them in. once a week i wash them in the washer, no soap. just a lil bleach on delicate cycle. hang dry. you would be amazed what they catch in a day, and with my wife's over feeding habit, i view it as a safety net also in my case, nitrates before filter socks 20+ after less than 5

I believe if properly cared for they are a good thing but I know MOST reefers get to busy and get slack. One day skipped leads to two.. then 2 weeks and WHAMO! Water problems ![]()

| Pistol Shrimp | Re: bubble trap vs. filter sock Ya'll have totally lost me, I don't have a filter on my tank. Just the protein skimmer. But Al, I took it off and gave it a good cleaning. It is a miracle I didn't burn my house down with all the water I got everywhere. Husband not too happy. So, bubbles still everywhere. Maybe I just have a retarted protein skimmer. There are millions of little particles in my water. I guess I will just make do till I can figure something out. |

| Tridacna maxima | Re: bubble trap vs. filter sock I dont really know how bak paks work so these may be stupid questions, but is the water splashing around when its returned, does the water already have bubbles when its being taken in(is the skimmer sucking in water from a place that gets alot of splashing around?), is it on tank or in sump?

| Pistol Shrimp | Re: bubble trap vs. filter sock There is no splashing in my tank. I don't have a sump (I don't even know what that is). The tank is full of bubbles because I can't get rid of them, so yes it is taking them in. I will give you the link to what I have. It is the Bak-Pak 2 w/ Rio 600RV. Here is the link: CPR AQUATIC, INC - BAK-PAK™ 2 |
