| Scopas Tang | possible very easy to access sump system I've been lookin at all kinds of sump systems and i have noticed that every single one has these dividers that seems like it would make it kind of tiresome to deal with. So i was at wally world lookin at all these big rubber maids i could make one out of. I start thinkin as im lookin that the solution to me would me to make a sump to sump system that you could just manage one type of media at a time without disturbing anything else. They have these plastic shelving things. They have all different sizes and they seem as though they would work so i drew up these plans and was seeing what you thought. The hoses would come out of the tank, to the first box from the first box i would put a hose to the second box but give it slack so i could pull the drawer out without stopping flow or anything, and the same way to the third before going to a pump that pushes it back upto the tank. http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...d6f9ada559.jpg |

| Scopas Tang | Re: possible very easy to access sump system Im not stacking rubbermaids. its built together already as a shelf system. i was also thinking of doing one other thing with it. The hose that would be coming out of drawer 1 going to drawer 2, i put a valved split on it so when i want to do water changes i just put my 5 gal bucket down let it fill up and then let it keep on doing what its doing. |

| Reef Lobster | Re: possible very easy to access sump system my concern would be the weight factor also with being nice to have a sump its even nicer to have a fuge you can do what alot of people do which is do a DIY build on your own sump/fuge combo with depending of your size of a tank but as small as a regular 5g glass tank here is a couple pictures of a real simple fuge/sump design i built out of a 10g tank that i have no problem accessing under my 55g tank ![]() and under the tank mind you now the light ifture is gone and replaced by a hanging fixture for more acess ![]()

| Scopas Tang | Re: possible very easy to access sump system Yea the weight factor has been weighing on my mind but it shouldn't really be a problem. I Could use having an extra storage shelf anyway so im going to fill it up with water and just some old reef rock and sit the light on top and see how it holds up. I think that thing under the tank is just so cluttered and dis-orderly... i can't help but have things neat. |

| Scopas Tang | Re: possible very easy to access sump system I went and bought the shelf today. I filled all three with water and it held up. The top of the shelf will be cut out so i can put a light over it, so there is no reason for that drawer to ever be pulled out and then the bottom drawer only sits about 1/5 of an inch off the ground so it has no real support issues. the middle drawer can come almost all the way out with out any problems and i think im going to put my least needed to deal with stuff there. I have jan 1st off =D today =D so i am going to try and get some of the plumbing done. Happy New Years Everyone ![]() |
