Re: Fantastic Fifty Five Gallon Great Tanks To Be.

Well I found my problems with my 55 and maybe it will be getting something in it soon. Hope to get more pics up soon, Shaun

Re: Fantastic Fifty Five Gallon Great Tanks To Be.

I did not stack the rock up against the back wall so that I could get water flow behind the LR. My return outlets are directed to flow behind the rockwork
but my two Tunze power heads really give me a lot of flow all throughout the tank.

Thanks Lynn!
I learned from the best here on RS!

Its one thing to ask for advice but the real test is to follow it!
I want what is best for my animals.

now i think of my tank as a small 20 gallon, lol.

Lynn, i honestly think my tank is doing OK, and if i were 18 it would be perfect my fish would be healthy, my new items would be QTed, and i will push it on him alot ( to the extent where i loose my internet lol, im not losing my phone though )

Re: Fantastic Fifty Five Gallon Great Tanks To Be.

Really Cole that was a general statement not necessarily directed at you.
I was simply giving Goldenmean credit for doing things in the best way possible.
No matter how hard you try or what you do, it is not perfect. We all make mistakes and we all learn from them. Unfortunately in this hobby lives are in our hands so it is even more important that we offer our animals the best care we can. If your father won't allow a QT, then you still do the best you can and give the fish the best care you can.
Parents don't always do what we want and bugging them about it is not going to get a positive response. It wouldn't from me anyway. I would just get more and more firm in my response.
I have always told my kids that if they don't agree with what I have said
or done to come to me and explain why they disagree. Calmly and logically.
There have been times they convinced me to change my mind and there
have been many times where they have not.

Lifereef overflow box (700gph flow rate)
Hamilton light fixture (2 x 250W 20k MH and 2 x 96W actinic bulbs)
2 tunze 6045 nanostream powerheads

I got my LR from TampaBay Saltwater Live Rock - Tampa Bay Saltwater Aquacultured Live Rock
I got the 45g package that came with (90 lbs LR, 45 lbs LS, 45 hermits, 23 snails, 2 Tigar tail cukes, 1 star, 1 peppermint shrimp. I added more sand for a total of 120# LS which gave me a good 2" sand bed

Hey- that's nice rock, nice & purple, did it come fully covered with purple coralline or did it mature that way? Was there anything growing on the rock when you got it?
Right now I have a total of 3 fish.
A 4" Velvet Multicolor Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus Luteovittatus)
and a pair of Woodstock's Picasso Percula Clownfish. The picassos have taken up residence in the Anchor coral.
Yesterday I bought a Long Nose Hawk Fish (Oxycirrhites typus) who is currently in quarantine where he will stay for at least 6 weeks.

Here are two half tank shots to give a little better view of my reef (almost a year and a half old now)
a FTS
and a FTS with the QT
