| Tridacna maxima | Re: How Many tangs can fit in a 150 gal tank? I believe it depends on the type of tangs, the size of the fish you get, the order to you introduce the fish, and a couple other things like body shape and such. Just throwing a number out there I would say 2-3 if you are careful but I have seen people with 1 in a 150 and there was a guy that had 5 in a 75 for years with no problems. A little more info on what you are thinking and you will probably get some more accurate advice though. Also, welcome to RS, i noticed this was your first post and will be the first person to welcome you. You came to a good place!

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: How Many tangs can fit in a 150 gal tank? I would much prefer to re-phrase the question and even then there are way too many variables for a straight answer. Can fit would not be my question but can live comfortably is my question. Other things that need to be considered are tank mates, type of tangs, and rockscape. What I can say is that I just had to remove my Chevron, Sailfin, and Regal tangs from my 6ft 125g. They were each abot 6 inches and it was just too crowded in there. The sailfin's fins reached almost from top to bottom of the tank when extended.

| Tunicate | Re: How Many tangs can fit in a 150 gal tank? thanks for the help. I am very new with this. I do have a 40 gallon tank running now. So I want a sailfin regal and a orange shoulder tang. maybe one more ? Is this at all achievable? Also wondering with the best way to transfer everything over to the 150 from the 40 gal? with out a "re cycling" once everything is moved? |

| Torch coral | Re: How Many tangs can fit in a 150 gal tank? you would need to cycle the 150 first then move things over. Then you would just have to start moving things over a little at a time.

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: How Many tangs can fit in a 150 gal tank? Please don't. The Sailfin in particular is going to just plain get too large. Their fins take an enormous amount of room. If you are going to add multiple tangs then choose them from different familys (different body styles). Don't put a yellow and a purple together since they have the same shape. A yellow and a kole would be much better together. Research each tang and it's sprcific requirements before purchasing and add them to the tank last. Just as one piece of info you may not know, the regal is very shy and will hide in very small spaces or lie perfectly still on the ground when even slightly spooked. They will make you think they are dead when in fact they are fine. I strongly suggest you sit back and build up to things slowly. Get the 150 set up and established while doing your research and then consider what tangs you may or may not want to add. They are a particularly large bio-load so you want the system established well before adding them regardless.

| Tunicate | Re: How Many tangs can fit in a 150 gal tank? Hello again I have recently obtained what i thought was a young juvi OSTang. But I am thinking it is a yellow mimic tang. Its fins are rounder and flowing. Is this a desirable fish? Will it tolerate other tangs? I dont know a lot about should i return it to LFS? |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: How Many tangs can fit in a 150 gal tank? I'll have to admit ignorance on this one. I have never heard of an OSTang and know little about yellow mimics. What size is the tank and what other livestock is in the tank?
