| Star Polyps | lies from the LFS ok so this weekend i went to the lfs to purchase something new for the tank had in mind some sort of crustacean, so of coarse i get talking to some guy named sam who works there and i know i dont know much about reef tanks im kinda still new to the hobby and have alot to learn but this guy thought he knew everything and just kept talking about his tank which im sure was nice and all but this guy i could tell was just feeding me lies. first he told me that my snowflake eel was a bad purchase and it will kill all my fish, which iv heard from on here that as long as i keep him fed he wont bother any crabs, so he told me that because of the eel it limits me and basically it was dumb to buy it so i got kinda mad then the gy told me to buy this niger trigger, he said it wood be a great addition and they are reef safe so i get it all bagged and tagged from some lady and bring it up to the counter and SAM tells me its a bad idea because it will eat all the crabs so i had to bring it back so then i went for the second thing he told me to get a yellow tang so i bag that and he tells me once again no because "there are better tangs out there, and that would be the only tang i can put in the tank because the tang will kill ll the others" so now im pretty sure that sam has no idea because i see in pictures all the time 15 or more tangs all mixed together. so i got mad and wound up buying a little red firefish goby and of coarse i had to name it sam. but anyways this guy was lying about pretty much everything right or had no idea what he was talking about right? otherwise im going to feel real dumb ahaha

| Plate Coral | Re: lies from the LFS Obviously if he's sending you running back and forth across the store with livestock I would say he's either messing with you or doesn't know what hes doing lol......I'd watch the eel around shrimp/crabs and small fish but its one of those things I think probably varies by specimen...in either case keep it fed well and keep an eye on it until you see how it is. Thats not to say a year from now it wont get an appetite for your favorite shrimp or your little goby in the wrong place at the wrong time lol. |

| Serpent Star | Re: lies from the LFS Snow flakes won't eat all your fish. Nigers aren't reef safe. I had one actually snap some purple gorgonians in half. I think yellow tangs are cool, but he's somewhat right on tangs being hostile towards one another. If they are introduced at the same time, you'll have a better chance at them getting along. Then again, I don't care what anybody says....Fish are like people. They're not all the same. Some are nice, some are bullies, some are babies, and some just want to kill all the others. In conclusion, one tang might not bother any others, and another of the same species could turn out to be the meanest fish you ever seen. Live and learn though. That's what this hobby is all about. |
