| Plate Coral | LOWEST heat-emitting power head....? Hello All, In my AP24 I replaced the stock recirc pump with a MaxiJet 1200 in June 2007 when my tank was first set-up. Later on I added two Koralia Nanos in each corner. Ever since I added the MJ1200 I noticed that my tank temps went up a couple of degrees and I never did anything about it. This spring I upgraded my lighting from the stock 64W PC to a 144W nanocustoms.com upgrade. My tank temps went up higher still. What I am looking for is a way to reduce heat input into my tank as much as possible, so here is my question: Can anyone recommend a "cooler running" powerhead that is somewhat comparable to the MJ1200? Thanks John |

| Do I look as lost as I am ![]() | Re: LOWEST heat-emitting power head....? I hate to say this but as "Economical" power heads go that's about as good as it gets. My tank temps dropped when I added the MJ900 to my Nano 12DX.

It's ALL gotta go!! Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change. Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian) This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%. Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!! 1. My present setup is (1) 1200 and (2) Koralia Nanos, so that's (1x295gph)+(2x240gph) = 775gph. The total wattage dissapated by these is (1x20W)+(2x4.5W) = 29W. 2. If I go with a 900, then I'll have (1x230gph)+(2x240gph) = 710gph. The total wattage dissipated by these is (1x8.5W)+(2x4.5W) = 17.5W. That's only an 8.3% drop in gph with a 39.6% drop in wattage! I think I'll go with the MJ900!! Thanks John | |
