Perc. Clown won't eat.

I have had my tank raised perc. clown since Friday and he is looking great except he won't eat. I feed my chromis flakes and the clown pellets that say they contain garlic. The chromis eats perfectly (hes been in for about 2 weeks now) and the clown will try both the flakes and the pellets but keeps spitting them back out. Does anyone have any idea? Or will he just eventually start to eat? It took my chromis about 4 days to really begin to eat like crazy so I am not worried yet. Should I be?

Here is a great article on getting a fish to eat. I have also included one on fish nutrition since they are related.

Try mysis shrimp or cyclopeeze.

even prime reef flakes soaked in R/O water 1st. Strange, my tank raised one was a total pig from day one. Are the pieces too big?? they will spit it out if they are too big

Re: Perc. Clown won't eat.

I agree - odd for a tank raised specimen. Sometimes stress makes them very picky. Getting them kick started on a more appealing/natural food may be all it needs.

Re: Perc. Clown won't eat.

You may want to check with the LFS you got the Perc from, find out what they were feeding and try to match. Then add in the other types of food once he has been eating well for a while. Definately try the frozen mysis as that is my Perc's favorite, just remember to soak in RO water first.

Re: Perc. Clown won't eat.

Alright so I picked up some frozen mysis. They went crazyy over it and the clown actually ate it. He spit some out and ate some. My chromis also loved it!
So should I just feed them the mysis for now on? Or should I mix it up b/w mysis, flakes and pellets?

Re: Perc. Clown won't eat.

I can comment on my feeding routine which seems to work well. I mix a small amount of mysis, a pinch of flakes, and pinch of pellets in a small cup of R/O water. I let that sit for 10 minutes, strain it out, and add to the tank. Everybody goes crazy and I figure this way the fish are at least getting a bit of variety. I feed every other day.

Stinks to high heaven, but he loves it.. Not enough baking soda in the freezer after opening it...

Re: Perc. Clown won't eat.

Himemade mush here made with any fresh seafood and shellfish I can get at the port. Cyclopeze and mysis and some flake and pellet thrown in for good measure.
