Anyone Own One of These?

It's a basket star. I searched the term, and only found a few threads. How hard is it really to take care of? What kind of food requirements does it have? Would phyto take care of it? Any additional info. or success stories would be greatly appreciated.

Chris I believe that's a huge No-No in this hobby. I'll try and dig some links up to support that but just from the fact you mentioned "only found a few threads" should tell you a LOT about it.

Thanks Big Al. I just thought "Man, they look so cool!", but I wanted to see what all of you think before I got one, not that I could afford it for a while anyways, but I wouldn't want to endanger it's life.

A) They can get HUGE!

baskets only open at night don't they to feed? Meaning you'd have to get up several times a night to keep it fed.

Getting up at night wouldn't be really that hard for me. I'm kind of a night owl, I would just be worried about it dying. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have one, but the risks probably outweigh the payoff.

they feed all night long on the windward side of a reefwall. grabbing planktonic food that is brought in from the upcurrent. in a tank, they starve. period. even if you could provide food for them, the waterquality would soon deteriotate and result in the death of the animal.
