Starfire??????

I just started my new solana 34 and it's supposed to be a starfire tank. The question i have is there a way that positively identifies it as such? To me it the front panel looks the same as the others and i don't see any decals, engraving, etc. that distinguishes it as starfire glass. thanks in advance!

Re: Starfire??????

star fire is low iron glass. iron content causes glass to look greenish.

Re: Starfire??????

Look at the edges where the panels meet. You should see green one direction where the high iron glass meets the low iron glass.

Re: Starfire??????

It is spelled Starphire. It is a trade name for low iron glass like Witty said.
Do what Lynn said and look at the edge. with starphire you can see right through to the other side. Regular will be distorted and unclear.

Re: Starfire??????

Looking at the product specs it doesn't say anything about starphire (spelled correctly this time Frankie) or low iron glass:

Re: Starfire??????

I hate that when they mark something up like that and don't even tell the truth! I figured as much Mike. Current would be advertising the glass big time if it was special.

Re: Starfire??????

The Starphire Solana's were a limited run, that may or may not be coming back from what I've read. Seems most places are sold out of them already though.
I would still make sure you have a legit starphire one though.

from what i'm seeing all panels look the same.....they all have the same blueish/greenish tint. i'll continue looking into it before i call them out. the company that was selling them by the way is a sponsor here and was running a limited time offer. if it turns out it isn't starphire then i'll contact them and see what kind of support i get. and i'll definitely get back to you. i do know that this tank was delayed some from their supplier so who knows?

Re: Starfire??????

If it was drop shipped by the supplier the seller never even saw the product. I suspect you will receive good customer service from one of our sponsors.

yeah exactly i suspect the same.....they advertised free shipping on the unit as well but when i ordered it they charged for the shipping. the gentleman i was talking to said that the shipping was because it was oversized and that the ad was a "mistake". after a few minutes of chat with him he eventually honored the ad's claims. so, i'm sure they'll handle this in a similar manner. i'll let you know ok lynn?

Re: Starfire??????

Did some googling to find photos of the starphire version. This is the only one I've seen so far, and the glass seems to have a green tint on the edges to me:

[color="Blue"]wow mps great google action, thanks! it's pretty hard from her pics to see the tint you're talking about. but on the 1st pag she states "The new glass is very clear, there is no tint to it like most glass." so yeah hmmm but what a great thread huh? i haven't read it in it's entirety but i will soon. she made some awesome mods too!/COLOR]
