Re: lesson learned

Hmm, most healthy fish can escape a powerhead. I would look for other signs of disease.

Re: lesson learned

I dunno, I lost a very healthy sailfin to a power head. she was about 2.5", power head was very tiny. I oculd not belive she was jammed in there like that!

Re: lesson learned

Sorry about the fish Debby. These things happen. At least he looks like he will be ok other then a new tattoo
Your water clarity is awesome. All the corals look happy and healthy also. The anemone looks a bit on the pale side though, you might want to invest in stronger lighting if you want to keep it long term.
The glass is pretty spotless also. Great up keep!

Re: lesson learned

Sorry about that. I lost a Kole tang once to a MJ1200 when I knocked off the intake grill when cleaning the tank. I walked outside to dump the water and came back and he was half sucked inside.
Another local reefer lost a flame angel to an Ampmaster 3000 when his makeshift closed loop intake guard fell off. That one went right through the plumbing.
Unfortunately sometimes you have to chalk em up like you have as lessons learned.

ever put your hand against a mag 7....now imagine a fish 1/25 the size/weight of your hand. once stuck. your stuck. its a split second of oops and then forces of nature take over. it happens. ive had it happen to me, and its not a sick fish. its sheer power.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: lesson learned

bin there... sorry for damage... sounds like your fish might be ok...

thats a 1200 or 900... so maybe you will be ok..

i think the best route for this (ive applied to myself) is to remove the power head from the tank for cleaning...

dont even take the basket off in the tank..

i just cleaned a tunze about 15 min ago...
