Crab?

Does anyone know if it would be possible to accidentally get a baby stone crab, that someone mistook for an emerald. I cant seem to get a pisture of him but one of the crabs in my tank has a distinct black line from halfway to the end of each claw.

Yeah, black claws are a bad sign.

Re: Crab?

What is it a sign of? Just a different kind of crab?

Re: Crab?

I thought all crabs were evil killers Wit?
Generally the ones with black claws are the worst and more likely to eat your fish etc.

Re: Crab?

Do you think you could confuse a stone crab for an emerald though? I am wracking my brain on small stoneys and I know I have seen them uncharachteristically dark, but I have never seen one small enough to be confused with an emerald.

Re: Crab?

Product Description

Normal Size: 1 inch to 2 inches

These crabs are amazing! Most stone crabs are purple with a yellow bar at the bottom of each leg. These crabs are hand raised and are ready for your saltwater aquarium! They can live quite a few years if taken care of and that's the good news, they are scavengers and will eat any left over food which will help keep your tank clean. Just have a live rock, large shell, or even a sea squirt for them to make a little hideaway.

Doesn't look like an emerald to me but make your own call. I had no idea you could buy them for the aquarium. Learn something new every day.

Re: Crab?

My crabs just like to kill eachother, and it isnt a shell problem because there are like 50 shells in there. I think they just do it for the sport because there is no problems between them and ANYTHING else, just other crabs.
