Question zoa trouble

my zoas used to be open all the way. they were growing pretty fast. now they hardly open up. does anyone have a clue of what might be going on. also all the other corals are doing as good as before if not better.

Re: zoa trouble

a long time ago, one of my zoa patches did that. they closed, then some weird red stuff (not cyano) slowly sweeped over them, and killed 1/4 of them and the red stuff went in a singly band. within a week it was gone. i hope yours arent getting that disease

Re: zoa trouble

well on my largest colony (60-100 polyps) there were algae on some the heads which i gently rubbed off with a soft britslted toothbrush

thats why.

Inverts, softies often do a little sleep...

leathers, zoo's shrooms ( shrooms not so much) need like a regen time... (i dont know what else to call it)

assuming that nothing has changed... levels are right, flow is good (has not changed)

(variable&constant)

in time they will kinda shed some skin and open happy again

my loss's with zoos have bin flow and overturned frags.....
some grow slower then others (seems to be related to the color)...

Good luck....

Re: zoa trouble

Most likely -- Allelopathy or Pest (Nudi, Sundial Snail, Zoa Spider). If it is in bad shape per your statement, I would do a fresh water and iodine dip.

Is there any coral nearby that could be touching the colony? Any LPS with sweeper tentacles?
