Score!!

After many frustrating failed attempts at buying tanks through craigslist I had all but giving up. I knew what I wanted and but kept almost setteling for tanks just to get into one. Well today my patience paid off.

Oceanic 90 G bowfront predrilled
Oceanic cherry stand and canopy
20g acrylic sump
coralife skimmer (not sure if its the 120g or the 220g)
phosban reactor
4 rio pumps , 2 rio powerheads and one Koralia 3 or 4 power head
260w PC lighting system with moonlights this isn't my ideal lighting system but it will suffice for the next 6 months of maturing the tank.
Couple hundred dollars in chemicals, tests and cleaning supplies
5 gallon buck of salt
Haven't gone through everything so there is more but I got everything for less then the price of just the tank. Everything is less then 1 year old(I even got the receipts!!)!! I'm stoked!

should have the tank in place tonight and will start a new chronicle. But with my RO system just the fill is gonna take me a few weeks.

Re: Score!!

Very cool.
We definitely need pics.
Be careful with the tests and chemicals. Check for expiration dates.
I'm glad you got what you really wanted.

Awesome! Paitence pays off again

What is your RO capacity? How many Gallons Per Day is it?

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Score!!

My wife and I look at literally dozens of tanks and this is the first one we both said yup thats the one. If she wasn't happy it would have definetly been a mistake. Of course on the way home one of the first things she asked if we could have a moorish idol. :smck: . Luckily I have a couple months to talk her out of that one.

I've got everything in place just waiting for the fam to get back home to help me lift the tank up. Then I can start the pics.

the storage tank is a 2.5 gallon. Which means you can get about 1.5 gallons out at time or about 7 or 8 gallons a day. I have already talked to my pump guy and asked him what I can do to up the capacity. The tank will be against the kitchen wall so I'd like to plumb in auto filler to the tank directly off the RO feed. Shouldn't be too hard just a solenoid and a float switch.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: Score!!

The cool thing is we don't use the sink RO and its only about 3 ' from the tank. I change the filters on it all the time but we always drink bottled water, mostly cause we are on the go so much, you know 3 year olds don't let you sit at home and be lazy.

Got the tank in place and leak tested the thru tank fittings. Snapped a couple quick pics. Oh we picked up a couple damsels today figured they could help mature the tank while we fill it. hehe just kidding

heres the tank. I have the front glass door off the stand cause I didn't want to break it while my big butt was crawling around in there. White specs are dried fan worms gonna get that cleaned up while I am waiting on the water.Displaced my computer though.. gonna have to find a new spot for it. Fun fun.

heres the skimmer. I 've not heard great things about coralife skimmers but it should work for now. Its been a long time for me but it seems massive. No part number on it so i have no idea which model it is but the instructions are for 120g and 220g.

Now to start the chronicle.
