lights on?

When curing rock in a new tank, at what point should you start providing light over the rock? Ive been running a single 400W bulb over the tank a few hours a day to try and keep some light loving stuff alive.

Ammonia has dropped Nitrite is spiking. I assumed Id wait on full strength lighting until the tank could support a cleanup crew, but not sure. What do you think?

john im not an expert at all but i would keep the lighting just as your doing if it were me. i would think it would help the ageing process speedup a little but lets wait and see whay everyone else has to say, good luck though with the new tank looking forward to seeing it grow.

If it were me the lights would be up and running full blast!

I turned my lights off for the first 2-3 weeks when curing my live rock, then starting with 2-3 hrs a day and gradually increase it over the next two weeks to a full lighting schedule. I had no major algae blooms and all my coralline and LR looked great when it was all done.

Also at the two week mark, I took all my LR out of the tank gave it a good swoosh in a bucket of tank water and then returned it to the main tank. This helped remove any dead stuff from the rock.

Thanks Joe and all, Im at the 17 day mark now so I think I will start gradually inceasing light over the next week or so and I should be in good shape. Thanks again
