| Cabbage Leather | Kent Marine Bio-Rocker? Has anyone tried using the Kent Bio-Rocker? I always figured it would be good for a FO system, But would lead to high nitrates just like a bio-ball system will. I was talking to another reefer this weekend that couldn't say enough about it. He clamed that it doesn’t create nitrates like the bio-balls do? I’m just curious has anyone else heard this or had any good or bad experiences with the Kent Bio-Rocker? |

| Court Computer Wiz ![]() | I've got a friend whose been using the bio rocker for about 9 months now. Whether it will produce the nitrates like bio balls seems to depend on the configuration. The biorocker by itself is doing the same function as bio balls in a wet/dry. Kent sells a de-nitrification slab made of the same cell pore material as the bio rocker that is meant to be completely submerged in the sump. In essence the slab acts like a large chunk of live rock and cultivates bacteria to reduce the nitrates. The combination does seem to be working for my friend. He bought the deluxe setup that has sump, rocker, and slab all in one unit. The rocker itself will only cycle ammonia and nitrite to nitrate, the slab is what they use to handle the nitrate, at least from what has been described to me. HTH

| Reef Sanctuary's Mr. Wizard ![]() | They work just like bio-balls and will produce nitrates. However, there is an optional denitrator piece that can be attached to it.

| Reef Shark ![]() | My understanding has always been that the Bio-Slab that goen in the sump is 4" thick, and is designed to provide a anerobic zone for denitrification. Does it work as advertised? Don't know. But it seems like it would be similar to putting some very porous live rock in the sump. As long as it is fully submerged, it should work. |
